What A Day!

This morning, as most weekday mornings do, started at 5am. I jumped out of bed, I was a little late, and went to feed Aftyn. As I was sitting on the couch in our media room, I noticed an odd color on our green rug. Brown. It was about the size of Aftyn's hand. The longer I looked, I realized I was staring at the biggest spider I have yet found in our house. Luckily, I called to Reed who grabbed a shoe and helped that spider meet his maker. Yuck! Even Reed commented that he doesn't usually get grossed out by spiders, but that one got to him. It was BIG!

Follow this little incident up with me walking out to my car to begin my drive to work. It's still VERY dark outside - I noticed it smelled strongly of skunk. I thought I noticed some rustling in the car as I walked up, but thought nothing of it until I grabbed the door handle and something inside began jumping at all the windows, trying to get out. AAAAAHHHH!!!

A little background - This particular car has no air conditioning, so when I get home after my sweaty drive from work, I leave the windows open to let the hot car cool down at night. I know, it's not necessary probably, but I saw Reed do it with this car, so I just continued this tradition. Maybe he was secretly hoping someone would steal the car so we could get a newer one. I don't know. Whatever. Back to the Story.

In sheer panic, and if I remember right I might have been softly screaming, I grabbed the door handle, opened the door and backed away as fast as I could so the THING in the car would get out. Thankfully, the animal saw the open door, jumped out and ran away. And as it jumped out, I saw that it was just a gray striped cat -- that could easily be mistaken for a badger, raccoon, skunk or any other scary wild animal who could have bitten me and had rabies and I could have had rabies. My brain was racing a mile a minute and those were all the possible animals I came up with while I was freaking out about the trapped wild animal in my car.

Once I got my heart slightly calmed down, I had to get in the car because I was late, but the whole drive to work I kept thinking that there could easily still be something in the car with me and that thought freaked me out the whole way. Lesson Learned : tonight, my windows are only open a smidge. I would rather KNOW that there's nothing in the car with me and be hot, than not be sure and be nice and cool.

And that was my day. :) How was YOURS?
