Official Titles For Mothers

I was looking at the business card of one of Reed's co-workers last week when I happened to notice the BNA and MBA as part of her official accreditations.
I commented to Reed how exciting it would be when he too could have two degrees represented behind his name on a business card.

But just now, I happened to think how mothering is hard work. Potty training kids deserves bigger rewards than just to say "so and so is now out of diapers. yay!".  Getting babies to finally sleep through the night is quite the accomplishment for the sleep deprived mommy. Nursing for any significant amount of time, weaning kids from binkies and getting your kids to learn to like veggies all qualify any mother sainthood.
I'm proposing we mothers start the trend of awarding ourselves accreditation, and others will quickly follow. We need to start giving ourselves the credit we deserve. And so, I'll be the first.

Potty Training Pro
Binky Weaner
Crying It Outer
Nursing Forever
Master Food Negotiator
Peace Keeper
Hairdo-er Professional

I think the list would get a little too long.
Maybe if we could find one word to encompass it all?
How about just this.

Master of Mothering

Catchy.

When hubby got a promotion at work they sent out an e-mail announcing it. In the e-mail they detailed all of his accomplishments at work and college degrees, etc.

He forwarded it to me. I read it and decided that I needed an e-mail of my own. so I wrote it and sent it back to him.

I don't remember his response, but I totally agree with you. Moms are amazing. We do and put up with a lot. We need recognition.

So thank you for the recognition! Although, I think some of the titles I haven't earned. Like the binky one. And the hairdo and potty training one i need more training on. But those other ones I have a masters in :)

Awesome! I want that behind my name, I don't want to be just a homemaker. I want to be a MoM too,

Awesome! Have you read Jane Clayson's book, "I am a Mother!" Your post reminded me of her story about attending a dinner with her husband and lots of his colleagues. All the stay-home moms seemed reluctant to introduce themselves as "just a mom." Jane said we should stand up proudly and announce, I am a MOTHER! A noble calling, indeed. ;)

Yes, Kamber, I got that book for Mothers Day last year. I loved it and always try to remember when asked to say "I'm a mother!".
